In 2019 Ryan completed his first album: La Prima. His passion for infectious melodies empowers Ryan’s belief in the classic concept of an “instrumental pop song”. This, and his appreciation for the jazz and jam traditions of branching out from familiar forms into fresh musical spaces, contribute to the tuneful sentiment of this debut.
In 2005, Ryan went to keyboardist and sonic wizard Mike Kapitan to learn more about keyboards and technology. It soon became apparent that with Mike’s expertise and Ryan’s ideas, they could make some music happen that would go beyond what Ryan was able to realize with his current bandmates. With a fledgling batch of three compositions and a fourth sketch, they set to work and began a creative partnership that has spanned the years. In that time, Ryan composed seven more tunes for the project, and with the help of some gifted sidemen and Kapitan’s production magic, La Prima was born. Riding the theory of “create the art you want to experience”, Ryan has made this record and package a cornucopia for the senses, like many of the albums he enjoyed when growing up. Including custom artwork, poetry, and a complete listing of performance and production credits, this is an album you can hold in your hand and enjoy as a complete experience – a sonic tonic for the “stream” of everyday life.
